The Corps robot army is the most powerful in the world. A brotherhood of robots which need to kill to survive. Each solder is the perfect balance between technology and instinct. There's just one problem, one of them is developing a conscience.
BRD is a live-action drama that takes place in a dark alternate future. The world is broken into corporate states. Those who fall within the borders of these powerful entities are kept safe and secure. Outside of these densely populated areas are vast wild and lawless expanses know as “out-lands”. A powerful nomadic army known as the Crats dominates the international expanse. Anyone living in those areas is subject to the will of the opposing corporations and the Crats. The people like the landscape are devastated.
The Corp is the biggest corporate state with the most money and the largest population of citizens. Always on the defensive, it has become harder and harder to recruit soldiers from a population that considers violence barbaric and outdated. Machines on the other hand lack instinct and the independent thought that make a great soldier.
The solution is a team of robots with a human brain. The best of both worlds. Through years of experimenting it was discovered that for the brain to live, for life to exist, there is a finite energy source. “Life energy” is the term given for what is extracted from one life form to maintain another. At first this seemed like a problem, but it was soon seen as a powerful motivational tool. The robot solders want to survive. The only way to survive is to kill and absorb the life energy from other humans. The Crats and others outside of the Corp's borders fill this need satisfying both hunger and duty. The balance seemed perfect until RBT-721 (aka Max), one of the robots, begins to feel guilty for killing.
The Squad
“Them's my brothers. The weakest chump among them is mine to deal with. I'll come down on anybody wants to mess with mine” - RBT-719 (aka Abraham)
Character Descriptions
Every one of the robots and their human superiors is a distinct personality with particular emotions and motivations. The actor behind each character is a huge part of story being told. Sometimes it's helpful to imagine a known actor in the part of an un-cast character
Max is the robot who we follow through the story. He gets along with everyone, but doesn't really fit in with the others. He's very bright and gifted in his role as the tactical member of his team but recently he's had a hard time killing. This is a major problem because it is not only his duty, but he is starting to die from lack of life energy. We see this world largely through the his hungry and depressed eyes.
General Dmitriev or “the General” as the robots know him, is the military figure behind the robot army. It is his vision and his life's work. He needs to unveil this new force to the world in order to take the operation full scale, but he doesn't have much time to whip these boys into shape. He is a classic leader figure. He is cold, serious and carrier an authority about him even to anyone who doesn't know his rank. He is cool-tempered for the most part, but those who have seen him angry, don't ever want to experience it again.
Abraham is the bug gunner. He's the biggest and strongest member. He hates Mike and tries to egg him into a fight. Abraham talks like a jerk, but has fierce loyalty to his squad. He's like the biggest kid on the block, ready to defend the other kids with his life.
Chez is an artist. His eyes are his weapon as a sniper, but welding and staining tattoos on himself and others is his therapy. He's also the clown, and everyone's favorite member of the group. He lightens the often intense mood of the squad.
Juke is a laid back scout. He's nick named Juke because he jukes left and right and impossible to catch. He's the fastest of the robot who goes on secret night test missions and rewarded by the corp with drugs. If he was human, he'd be an addict.
Mike is the leader. He the most disciplined, the most dedicated and the smartest aside from Max. He has almost no sense of humor, and he hates max for all of his reservations about killing. He sees max as the weak link and wants him off the team.
Sgt Garza Is the closest human being to the squad. She has trained them since day one and believes they can be real soldiers, even if it kills her. She's a strict task mater, and commands more respect than love.
